OAKLEY, BUSHBUCKRIDGE — Culture took centre stage in Oakley Trust as the Mathibela Traditional Authority hosted its annual Ummemo celebration, bringing together traditional leaders, community members and dignitaries from across the country.
The Bushbuckridge Local Municipality Troika, led by Executive Mayor Cllr Moroane, Council Speaker Cllr Raganya and Chief Whip Cllr Malandule, joined councillors and traditional leaders from various parts of Bushbuckridge in marking the occasion.
Among the distinguished guests were Fikile Mbalula, Collen Malatjie, MEC Jackie Macie, MEC Hlophe, Cllr Renias Khumalo and the Ehlanzeni District Municipality Council Speaker.
More than a celebration, Ummemo represents a living expression of heritage—creating a space where customs, traditions and community values are passed from one generation to the next.
Held during Heritage Month, the gathering also highlighted the richness of Bushbuckridge’s cultural landscape and its potential to become part of the region’s wider tourism offering.
The MEC for Economic Development and Tourism in Mpumalanga is Ms. Jesta Sidell, who joined other dignitaries during the Umemmo celebration.
